It’s not a big challenge nor even a big problem (really, have you seen the world these days?). It’s just one of those things that I desperately need to solve because, well, I do. Bunny slippers, aka those cozy slippers that just make you go “aaah” when you put them on – that’s what I’m looking for. But to no avail.

You wouldn’t think this would be an issue. You wouldn’t even think they would be hard to find (it’s not like it’s a lost glass slipper I’m looking for). But I’m particular – and nothing out there seems to work. To wit:

I’m your pretty average bunny-slipper customer. A some-would-say cute (not exactly relevant, but I think you have to be a little cute to even think of writing a blog post like this) woman of a certain age whose feet need a little pampering when she gets home from the cold (metaphorically), hard world. As does my soul, which is why a soothing indulgence is so vital. (Soul vs. sole – see what I did there?)

Take a look at the specs:

Bunny ears not required (in fact, if I’m honest, I could live without the ears entirely). Adorable little pink nose not necessary. (Let’s face it, putting a face on my feet is a little creepy; in fact, we’re getting a little too close to the Alex Forrest character in Fatal Attraction with her fixation on bunnies.) Although I love it, pink isn’t a must (it is a preference). Fuzzy is good. Plush is a definite, as is soft and cloud-like. Open-toed is needed (you can’t show off a pedicure with covered toes).

And here’s the really important part – they have to be appealing and maybe even mildly sexy (okay, maybe that’s asking a lot, but I’m thinking “appealing” in the girl-next-door, Mary Ann vs. Ginger sort of way). I mean, I get how slippers are just so bland and so boring and so, well, not tearing up the fashion world or setting trends anytime soon. But if they’re adorable enough – while not exactly high-heeled, marabou-trimmed mules – they might at least elicit a smile from B., versus “Didn’t your mother have slippers like those?” Uh-oh.

Here’s just some of where I’ve been (and I’ve looked everywhere):

There was the pair that was fleece lined and covered with chic, black suede (you can take the girl out of New York – and out of her slippers – but you can’t take New York out of the girl). Comfortable, yes, and warm – too warm in fact, for my little piggies, which squealed in protest at being held captive there.

There was the pair that wasn’t sized right – I know that because my feet would start to slide through the open-toe openings after just a few steps. Full-on hilarity ensued when I tried to run from the kitchen to answer my phone, which was in the bedroom. Slip, slide, fumble, tumble – not a good look (good slapstick, though).

Then there was the aah-worthy (or so I thought) pair that was crafted in a soft, soothing shade of light green (no, it wasn’t available in pink but I was getting desperate here). It checked almost all of the boxes. Except the no-shedding one (I didn’t even think that that was something I’d need to worry about).

With every step I took, more of the green fluff would show up on the carpet. It was as if a stuffed, plush Easter bunny were leaving a trail of pastel-fluff poop. Paradoxically, no matter how much I tried to de-fluff the slippers (I tried a lint roller; I even put them in the clothes dryer), none of the fuzz would fluff-ing fall off. Only when I wore them. With every single step. And there never seemed to be a shortage of shedding. Sheesh. They were comfortable, but slippers that require a vacuum cleaner? Not so much.

I can’t help it. I just like tucking my feet into warm slippers first thing when I get out of bed in the morning and scuffling around in them when I’m settling in for the evening. Is that really too much to ask? And, since I am asking – anyone? Anyone?

Sigh. Maybe I’ll find them magically one day, just like Cinderella found her glass slipper in a fairytale ending.

Like pulling a rabbit out of a hat.
